For the past 10 years, as an independent life insurance agent, my focus has been on what is called in the industry, "impaired risk." I have purposefully educated myself in diseases such as diabetes and, as importantly, studied how each life insurance company treats type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes and gestational diabetes. I have also learned along the way which companies to avoid when working with a client who has diabetes.

We stay involved in the ongoing discussion and education concerning diabetes and its impact on health and financial issues. We work directly with companies to help influence and change diabetes underwriting.
